Manual Handling
Amendment
In October 2023, a Manual Handling subsection was added to the Early Intervention and Prevention area of the contents list. This new chapter was added to that subsection.
The Wigan Council Manual Handling team provides assessment of manual handling needs within the home environment when a person requires care via a home care agency or the reablement team. Following assessment, the team then organise the provision of suitable manual handling equipment along with providing training and advice to formal carers (including reablement) to maintain the safety of both the worker and the person they are supporting.
The Manual Handling Policy and Procedures sets out a range of information and guidance, including a more detailed remit of the team, how to make a referral, referral criteria (and exclusions), roles and responsibilities, carrying out a manual handling assessment and the potential outcomes.
